UC San Diego's Assessment Day 2024 is a full-day, professional development program on May 22, 2024 – curated by the offices of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Campus Life (VC-SACL) and the Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (VC-EDI).
2024 Theme and Keynote
"Breaking Barriers: Redefining Assessment for Equity and Empowerment"
The theme of Assessment Day 2024 is "Breaking Barriers: Redefining Assessment for Equity and Empowerment," and the keynote speaker will be Jody Greene, Associate Campus Provost for Academic Success and Professor of Literature at UC Santa Cruz.
Sessions were held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Dolores Huerta Room and online via Zoom.
Assessment Day Goals
The goals for Assessment Day 2024 are as follows:
- Promote Educational Equity
Demonstrate how assessment can be a powerful tool for advancing educational equity by identifying areas of improvement and ensuring inclusive practices.
- Strengthen Critical Thinking and Communication
Provide opportunities for staff, faculty and graduate students to enhance their critical thinking and communication skills through meaningful assessment activities.
- Embed Assessment into Everyday Practices
Cultivate a culture where assessment becomes an integral part of everyday practices by offering tangible takeaways and practical strategies in workshops.
- Foster Community Engagement
Create a supportive community where staff can openly share best practices, discuss common challenges, and learn from each other's experiences in assessment.

Meet Our Keynote Speaker
Jody Greene serves as UC Santa Cruz's first Associate Campus Provost for Academic Success. In 2016, after nearly two decades on the faculty, Jody became the Founding Director of UC Santa Cruz's Center for Innovations in Teaching and Learning – now known as the Teaching and Learning Center.
